La mappa

Artëm Map Poster & Print

Artëm sits in southern Primorye, a short drive northeast of Vladivostok, near where the Muravyov-Amursky Peninsula meets the mainland. Its layout comes from its origins as a coal-mining settlement. Rather than one centre, the map shows several clusters of streets, each once linked to a mine, joined by roads that run across low, wooded hills.

The city is named after Fyodor Sergeyev, the revolutionary known as Artyom. Mining shaped it for most of the twentieth century. Today one of its best-known features is Vladivostok International Airport, which lies within the city's territory at Knevichi. Its long runway is one of the most striking straight lines on any Artëm map poster.

To the south, the land drops toward the shallow northern end of Amur Bay, where river mouths and marshy shoreline soften the edge of the map. Highways toward Vladivostok and Nakhodka cut through town. The result is a patchwork plan of dispersed districts, transport corridors and green hills.

01

The airport runway

Vladivostok's international airport lies within Artëm. Its long, straight runway stands out as a clean geometric stroke among the more irregular streets around it.

02

Mining-era clusters

Districts grew around separate coal workings, so the map shows several distinct pockets of streets rather than one concentric centre.

03

Toward Amur Bay

The southern edge slopes down to the bay's shallow northern tip, where the coastline breaks into inlets and wetland at the bottom of the frame.

Perché Artëm

Una mappa che ha un significato

Artëm is where many journeys to and from Russia's Pacific coast begin or end, and it is home to generations of mining families. A map of it holds both stories: an industrial town and a gateway to the Far East.

Add a title, a subtitle with a date or a line of your own, and choose whether to show the coordinates. Styles include Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand.
