Main road spine
A through road organises the town. Most of its streets branch off this line, which gives the map a clear central axis running across the frame.

La mappa
Āzādshahr Map Poster & Print
Āzādshahr sits in Golestan province in northeastern Iran, where the farmed lowlands start to meet the slopes of the eastern Alborz. On a map, the town is a compact cluster of streets strung along a main road. Farmland surrounds it, and the land to the south rises toward forested high ground. The layout is simple and easy to read.
Before the 1979 revolution the town was known as Shahpasand, and it later took its present name, which means free city. Golestan is one of Iran's greener provinces, with a damp climate influenced by the nearby Caspian Sea. The land around Āzādshahr is mostly fields, and the town serves as a local centre for the villages spread across it.
An Āzādshahr map poster shows a town defined by the road that runs through it and by the rural setting around it. There are no grand boulevards or waterfront curves, just a plain arrangement of streets on the edge of the hills. Printed in fine black lines, it makes a restrained picture of a particular corner of northern Iran.

Foothills to the south
To the south the ground rises toward the forested Alborz. The poster shows this as a thinning of streets where the lowland ends and the slopes begin.
Field patterns
Cultivated land around the town appears as a loose weave of tracks and plot boundaries, a gentle background for the denser street network in the middle.
