La mappa
Banan Map Poster & Print
Banan is a district of Chongqing municipality lying south of the city's historic core, with the Yangtze River running along it. The terrain is typical of the region: steep ridges, deep valleys and very little flat land, so streets bend around hillsides, climb in switchbacks and link separate pockets of development rather than forming a continuous grid.
The district centre at Yudong sits beside the Yangtze, where the riverbank sets the direction of the main roads. Elsewhere, newer residential and industrial areas have been built on terraces and valley floors, joined by expressways that cut through the hills on viaducts and tunnels. The result on paper is a mosaic of dense clusters separated by open, contoured ground.
Banan is known locally for its hot springs, which have drawn visitors for generations, and for hill country close to the metropolis. A Banan map poster suits anyone who likes cities that follow the land, where every road seems to have been negotiated with a slope and the river quietly holds the whole composition together.

Hillside streets
Roads trace contours and switchbacks as they climb between districts. In black and white these winding lines give the map a sense of relief without any shading.
Clustered districts
Development sits in separate pockets on terraces and valley floors, linked by expressways. The pattern reads as a series of islands of streets rather than one continuous city.

Perché Banan
Una mappa che ha un significato
