Baocheng is the main town of Baoting Li and Miao Autonomous County, in the mountainous interior of southern Hainan. Unlike the island's resort coast, it sits inland among forested hills, and its map shows a town fitted into the available flat ground: a compact core of streets along a valley floor, with the terrain rising quickly on all sides.
The county is home to large Li and Miao communities, and it is known for Qixianling, the Seven Fairy Mountain, whose jagged peaks and hot springs draw visitors from across Hainan. On a Baocheng map poster, the town appears as a small, dense cluster from which roads climb and bend into the surrounding hills.
