Binika is a town in Subarnapur district, in western Odisha. It stands on the bank of the Mahanadi, one of the major rivers of eastern India. Here the river is broad and shallow for much of the year, with a wide bed of sandbars and shifting channels. Seen from above, that riverbed is often wider than the town itself.
The town's streets run parallel to the river and then turn inland towards farmland and the roads to Sonepur and other centres in the district. Like many places along the middle Mahanadi, Binika has a long connection with the river, and its ghats, temples and fishing are part of that link. Handloom weaving is also important in this part of Odisha.
