La mappa
Bolvadin Map Poster & Print
Bolvadin is a town in Afyonkarahisar Province, in the highland interior of western Turkey. It lies on a broad plain where the Akarçay river flows toward Lake Eber, a shallow reed-filled lake just to the north-east. On the map the town forms a compact, roughly rounded settlement set amid flat farmland and water channels.
Bolvadin's history reaches back to antiquity, when the site was known as Polybotus, and it has long been a market town for the surrounding plain. The wider Afyonkarahisar region is known for poppy cultivation under licence, and the fields around Bolvadin form part of that patchwork of seasonal crops.
A Bolvadin map poster brings out the quiet structure of an Anatolian plain town. The dense centre with its irregular older streets, the more regular newer districts at the edges, the line of the river and the wide open land toward the lake all read clearly. In black and white the composition feels calm and grounded.

Compact old centre
Bolvadin's core is tightly built with irregular streets around the market and mosques, becoming more regular as newer neighbourhoods spread outward.
