Tysmenytsia valley
The river runs through the town, and the main streets follow it. On the poster it forms a clear, flowing line through the middle of the composition.

La mappa
Boryslav Map Poster & Print
Boryslav lies in the foothills of the Ukrainian Carpathians in Lviv Oblast, close to Drohobych and the spa town of Truskavets. The land here rises and folds, so the town does not follow a grid. Instead it stretches along the valley of the Tysmenytsia River and its side streams, and its streets climb the slopes in curving lines that follow the contours.
In the nineteenth century Boryslav became one of Europe's earliest oil fields. It was also known for ozokerite, a natural mineral wax that was mined here on a large scale. Workers arrived from across Galicia, and the town grew quickly and unevenly around the wells and shafts. Much of that industrial landscape has since faded, but the scattered shape of the settlement still reflects it.
On a map, Boryslav looks organic rather than planned: clusters of houses in the valley bottoms, lanes branching up side valleys, and a main road that connects them all. A Boryslav map poster turns that loose, hilly pattern into a surprisingly graceful image, with the river line at its centre.

Contour-following lanes
Side streets bend and climb up the surrounding slopes, creating curving patterns that show the hilly ground without any shading.
Oil-field legacy
The town grew in scattered clusters around nineteenth-century oil and ozokerite workings, and that loose, spread-out layout is still visible from above.
