Organic street pattern
The streets in the centre follow the edges of compounds and plots, not a surveyed grid. The result is a softly irregular texture on the print.

La mappa
Burām Map Poster & Print
Burām is a town in South Darfur, Sudan, in the savanna country of the region's southern part. From above, the settlement is a modest grouping of streets and compounds with no strict grid. Lanes run between enclosures at slightly irregular angles, which is typical of towns that grew gradually rather than from a single plan.
Outside the built-up area, tracks head off in several directions across open, mostly flat land, linking Burām with farms, grazing areas and neighbouring settlements. Seasonal watercourses in this part of Darfur can leave faint traces on a map as well. In monochrome, the overall picture is quiet: a dense centre surrounded by thin lines fading into open space.
A Burām map poster is a restrained and personal object. It records a place that seldom appears in print, drawn with the same care as any major city. For people from the town and for those who have worked in the region, it can mean more than a photograph, because it shows how the place is laid out.

Radiating tracks
Unpaved routes leave town in several directions across the savanna. They look like fine threads that pull the eye out toward the edges of the frame.
Open surroundings
Large areas of undeveloped land around the town leave a lot of white space. This gives the small settlement at the centre a calm, focused presence.

Perché Burām
Una mappa che ha un significato
For people from Darfur who live far from home, a map of their town is a simple way to keep it close. It has no captions or commentary, only the shape of the place, which each viewer can fill in with their own memories.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can all be changed, for example to add a family name or a date that matters. Choose from five styles, and receive HD files at 300 DPI, or order a printed poster on matte paper through our print partners.
