La mappa
Butterworth Map Poster & Print
Butterworth sits on the mainland side of Penang, in Seberang Perai, directly across the Penang Strait from George Town. From above, its coastline runs north to south, with the ferry terminal and railway station close together on the waterfront. The Prai River reaches the sea to the south, and industrial estates and residential districts spread inland toward the North–South Expressway.
The town is named after William John Butterworth, a nineteenth-century governor of the Straits Settlements. For decades it was the main ferry crossing to Penang Island, and it remains a transport hub. It is the northern terminus of the west coast railway, and the Penang Bridge begins a short distance to the south. The RMAF Butterworth air base lies to the north.
A Butterworth map poster captures a place defined by crossings. The shoreline faces the island across a narrow strait, the rail and ferry terminals meet at the water, and roads branch out to the rest of the peninsula. The mix of harbour, river mouth and dense streets gives the design both movement and texture.

Penang Strait
The channel between the mainland and the island fills one side of the map. Its straight coastline gives the composition a clean edge and looks across toward George Town.
Prai River mouth
To the south, the Prai River meets the strait among port and industrial land, adding a winding line of water to the otherwise straight coast.
