La mappa
Cachoeiro de Itapemirim Map Poster & Print
Cachoeiro de Itapemirim lies in the south of Espírito Santo state, where the Itapemirim River runs over rocky rapids on its way to the Atlantic. The name refers to those rapids, and the river still organises the city: the centre sits along its banks, and bridges tie together neighbourhoods climbing the hills on either side.
The terrain is uneven, with steep granite hills rising between districts, so streets curve around slopes and follow narrow valleys rather than forming a single grid. The granite peak of Itabira stands outside the city. Around the urban area, quarries and stone yards reflect the region's role as one of Brazil's main centres of marble and granite production.
Cachoeiro is also known as the birthplace of the singer Roberto Carlos and the writer Rubem Braga, both of whom carried the city into their work. A Cachoeiro de Itapemirim map poster shows how a river and its hills shape a town, with the water running through the middle like a signature.
