Nagold valley
The river winds through a deep, narrow valley, so the town stretches along its course and the steep, wooded sides frame it closely.

La mappa
Calw Map Poster
Calw lies in the northern Black Forest in Baden-Württemberg, deep in the valley of the Nagold. The river's bends and the steep wooded slopes shape the whole town. The old centre fills a narrow strip of valley floor, and newer districts climb onto the plateaus above, reached by winding roads.
The town is the birthplace of Hermann Hesse, who wrote about it in several works under the name Gerbersau. Its market square is lined with half-timbered houses, and the old stone Nikolausbrücke, with its small chapel, crosses the Nagold in the centre. The ruins of Hirsau Abbey stand just downstream.
A Calw map poster turns this valley setting into a striking composition. The Nagold threads through the middle, the tightly packed historic core follows its banks, and the roads curl up the slopes toward the hilltop neighbourhoods. The dense forest around it creates a strong frame on every side.
