Capas lies in southern Tarlac, on the western side of the Central Luzon plain, where flat farmland rises towards the Zambales Mountains and Mount Pinatubo. The town centre is a compact grid of streets near the main highway, surrounded by barangays, rice fields and sugarcane.
Capas holds an important place in wartime memory. Camp O’Donnell, where Filipino and American prisoners were held at the end of the Bataan Death March in 1942, was located here. The Capas National Shrine, with its tall obelisk and wide grounds, now marks the site and is a solemn landmark on the map.
A Capas map poster also includes something new. Part of New Clark City, a planned development, lies within the town, and its sports complex hosted events for the 2019 Southeast Asian Games. The broad avenues of the new city and the long runways at Clark to the south contrast with the older agricultural patterns.
