Valley-fitted centre
The urban core occupies the lower ground between hills. Streets bend with the terrain instead of following a strict grid, which gives the centre a compact, irregular outline.

La mappa
Caraí Map Poster & Print
Caraí is in northeastern Minas Gerais, in the hilly country around the Jequitinhonha and Mucuri basins. The land here is a series of rounded ridges and narrow valleys, and the town fits itself to them. Streets follow the low ground and climb where they have to, so from above the town looks less like a grid than a cluster tucked into the folds.
The landscape shapes the map at every scale. Rural roads loop around the hills to reach farms and small communities, and streams cut thin, winding lines through the countryside. The result is an organic drawing: dense in the centre, then quickly opening into the long curves of roads that follow the contours out of town.
A Caraí map poster gives this interior Minas town a place on the wall that it rarely gets in atlases. It is a quiet, particular image. The hills never appear directly, but you can feel them in every bend of the streets and in the way the town gathers where the ground allows.

Contour roads
Roads leave town by winding around the ridges. On the poster they become long, sweeping curves that contrast with the tighter pattern of the streets in the centre.
Stream lines
Small watercourses thread through the surrounding countryside in fine, meandering lines, tracing the valleys that shape where the roads and settlements can go.
