La mappa
Cárdenas Map Poster & Print
Cárdenas lies in the Chontalpa, the fertile western lowlands of Tabasco, west of Villahermosa. The land is almost perfectly flat and crossed by rivers, streams and drainage channels, and the city spreads across it in a broadly regular grid around a central plaza. From above, the urban area is a dense patch of streets surrounded by a wide agricultural plain.
The region is one of the historic heartlands of Mexican cacao, and farms and haciendas around Cárdenas still grow it, along with sugar cane and other crops. The oil and gas industry has also shaped the area since the mid-twentieth century. On the map, highways, canals and field boundaries stretch outward in long straight lines across the lowland.
A Cárdenas map poster captures a city laid out on open ground: the tidy centre, the main roads heading toward Villahermosa and the Gulf coast, and the water that threads through the surrounding country. It is a steady, even composition that works as a clean black-and-white print or in any of the other styles.

Lowland waters
Rivers, streams and drainage channels cross the flat Chontalpa plain, adding thin, winding lines that break up the surrounding fields.
Cacao country
Beyond the city, a network of rural roads leads to farms and plantations in one of Mexico's traditional cacao-growing regions, giving the outer map a fine, scattered texture.
