Changxin sits on the flat plain north of Yinchuan in Ningxia, a landscape defined by water brought in from the Yellow River. From above, the town reads as a tight cluster of blocks set among long, straight field boundaries, with roads and irrigation channels drawing parallel lines across the surrounding farmland.
The Ningxia plain is one of the oldest irrigated regions in northern China, and its canals have shaped settlement here for centuries. Towns like Changxin grew along that network, so the map shows a rhythm of rectangular plots, drainage ditches and rural lanes rather than winding streets. To the west, the Helan Mountains mark the edge of the plain.
