Chapar is a town in the Dhubri district of western Assam, on the wide floodplain of the Brahmaputra. The land here is low and flat, and it is shaped by the river's changing channels, seasonal flooding and the rice fields that cover most of the surrounding area.
From above, the town is a modest cluster of streets along its main roads and railway, with settlements extending along embankments and higher ground. Around it the map opens into a pattern of fields, ponds, wetlands and small watercourses, all shaped by the rhythm of the river.
