La mappa
Chaudfontaine Map Poster & Print
Chaudfontaine lies just southeast of Liège, in Belgium's Walloon region, where the Vesdre river cuts a deep, winding valley through wooded hills. The town and its neighbouring villages follow the valley floor. From above, streets, the railway and the river run side by side in narrow bands, and the steep slopes on either side are mostly left to forest.
The name means hot fountain. Chaudfontaine is home to Belgium's only natural hot spring, and its water has been used for bathing since at least the seventeenth century. It is now also known as a brand of mineral water, and the old spa buildings and casino still stand near the river.
A Chaudfontaine map poster shows a place entirely shaped by its valley: a ribbon of streets threaded along the Vesdre, with forest pressing in above. The narrow, winding composition is unusual and makes a quiet, elegant drawing.

Hot spring
Belgium's only natural hot spring rises here, the source of the town's name, its spa history and its well-known mineral water.
Forested slopes
Steep woods rise on both sides of the valley and appear on the map as broad open areas crossed only by a few climbing roads.
