Biobío River
The broad river runs the whole length of the city. Its width and scattered sandbars make it the largest shape on the poster and a calm counterweight to the streets.

La mappa
Chiguayante Map Poster & Print
Chiguayante lies along the Biobío River immediately south-east of Concepción and is part of Greater Concepción. Its shape is unusual. The city is long and thin, squeezed between the broad river on one side and the steep, wooded slopes of the coastal range on the other, so nearly everything in it runs parallel to the water.
A main avenue and the railway follow the river, and most streets branch off at right angles for only a short distance before they reach the hills. On the map, the Biobío, one of Chile's largest rivers, appears as a wide band with sandbars and islands. The slopes behind the city are cut by small valleys, where neighbourhoods climb upward in narrow fingers.
A Chiguayante map poster turns this linear geography into a strong, directional composition. The river, the parallel routes and the steep green edge form bands that run the full length of the frame. It is a distinctive piece for people who live in Greater Concepción and for anyone with family ties to this riverside community.

Linear street pattern
The main avenue and the railway run parallel to the river, and short cross streets reach towards the hills, creating a distinctive ladder-like layout.
Coastal range slopes
Wooded hills rise directly behind the city, and neighbourhoods climb the valleys, giving the map an irregular edge of fingers and ridges.
