Conway lies in central Arkansas, north of Little Rock, where the Arkansas River valley meets the first rolling hills of the Ozark foothills. From above, its older centre follows a straightforward grid near the railway, while newer neighbourhoods and commercial areas extend outward along major roads and Interstate 40, which crosses the city.
Conway is often called the City of Colleges. It is home to the University of Central Arkansas, Hendrix College and Central Baptist College, and their campuses form distinct open areas on the map. To the south lies Lake Conway, a large reservoir built by the state for fishing, and Toad Suck Park, on the Arkansas River to the west, is a local landmark.
