Crestview is the county seat of Okaloosa County in the Florida Panhandle. Its name refers to its position on a ridge between the Shoal and Yellow rivers, among the higher ground in the state. On the map, the older town centre forms a compact grid near the railway. Newer subdivisions spread outward along curving streets and cul-de-sacs.
The city grew as a crossroads, and it is sometimes called the Hub City. Interstate 10, US Highway 90 and the east-west railway all pass through or beside it, and major north-south routes meet them here. From above, these corridors cut firm lines across a landscape that otherwise dissolves into pine forest and wetlands.
