La mappa
Darreh Shahr Map Poster & Print
Darreh Shahr, whose name means valley city, lies in Ilam Province in western Iran. It sits in a river valley among the folded ridges of the Zagros Mountains, and on a map it fills the flat valley floor. Streets are packed into the available lowland, and bare slopes rise on either side.
The area is known for the remains of an old city from the Sasanian era nearby, one reason the region draws historians and visitors. A Darreh Shahr map poster focuses on the present town, whose shape is set almost entirely by the landform around it.
From above, the Zagros ridges around the valley run in long parallel lines, one of the most distinctive landscapes in Iran. Even a tightly cropped map shows how the town follows the direction of the valley, with roads running along it rather than across the high ground.

River corridor
A river corridor runs through the valley, and roads and fields line up along it, linking the town to the wider region.
