La mappa
Des Moines Map Poster & Print
Des Moines, Washington, lies on the eastern shore of Puget Sound, roughly halfway between Seattle and Tacoma and just south of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. It shares its name with the capital of Iowa, but the landscape could hardly be more different. On a map, the city is a strip of residential streets set between the water and the busy highway corridors inland.
The ground drops steeply toward the Sound, and many streets follow the bluffs and ravines rather than a strict grid. At the waterfront, the Des Moines Marina and Des Moines Beach Park give the town a clear focus, while Saltwater State Park to the south adds another stretch of wooded shoreline. From above, the coastline is long, gently curving and edged by green.
A Des Moines map poster puts the Puget Sound shoreline at the centre of the composition, with the marina's breakwater and the residential streets stepping back up the slope. In black and white, the water becomes calm open space and the city a fine, orderly pattern beside it. It is a quiet image of a place defined by its view west across the Sound.

Puget Sound shoreline
The coast runs along the entire western edge of the city, gently curving, and it gives the poster a strong, clean division between land and water.
Saltwater State Park
South of the centre, the state park fills a wooded ravine that opens onto a beach, appearing as a green gap in the residential street pattern.
