Dhamas is in the Gedo region of south-western Somalia, in dry lowland country near the borders with Kenya and Ethiopia. On a map, the settlement is a small group of streets and compounds surrounded by wide, open land. A few tracks lead out from it in different directions and connect it with other towns and grazing areas.
With few permanent rivers and little relief, the land around Dhamas looks almost empty from above. Seasonal watercourses leave faint lines that are visible mainly after rain. The only strong structure comes from the roads and the shape of the settlement. This gives the map a spare, graphic look.
