Plateau terrain
The city is set among hills and dry ravines, so many roads bend and curve with the land, especially toward the edges of the built-up area.

La mappa
Dongsheng Map Poster & Print
Dongsheng is the historic centre of Ordos, in the southwest of Inner Mongolia, on the high, dry Ordos Plateau inside the great northern loop of the Yellow River. On a map the city sits among rolling hills and eroded gullies, and its streets adapt to the uneven ground. Broad avenues cross the centre, and roads bend along valleys at the edges.
The city grew rapidly in the early twenty-first century, driven by the coal and natural gas industries of the surrounding region. Much of that growth appears on the map as wide, straight roads and large new blocks laid out alongside the older, finer streets of the centre. The contrast between these two scales is one of the most distinctive features of its layout.
To the south lies Kangbashi, the new district of Ordos, built from scratch in the same period and linked to Dongsheng by highway. A Dongsheng map poster focuses on the older city. It shows the compact core, the wide modern avenues around it and the way the built area gives way to the open, rolling landscape of the plateau.

Wide new avenues
Broad roads laid out during the recent building boom run in long straight lines, framing large blocks that contrast with the older streets of the centre.
Compact old core
The historic centre keeps a denser, finer street pattern, forming the most detailed part of the map among the wider modern districts.
