Dyer is a town in Lake County, Indiana, sitting right on the state line with Illinois at the southern edge of the Chicago metropolitan area. Its western boundary is a straight north–south line, and the town fills the land east of it with a mix of older streets and later subdivisions built around curving drives and cul-de-sacs.
The main east–west route through town is US 30, the historic Lincoln Highway, America's first coast-to-coast road. Dyer holds a short stretch known as the Ideal Section, built in the early 1920s as a model of what modern highway design should look like, with wide pavement and landscaped edges.
