La mappa
El Doncello Map Poster & Print
El Doncello sits in the department of Caquetá, where the eastern slopes of the Andes flatten into the lowlands that lead toward the Amazon basin. Seen from above, the town is a tight rectangle of blocks set on the main road that links the settlements of the Caquetá foothills. Past its edges the pattern changes quickly into open pasture, thin lines of trees and small streams.
The street plan is simple and regular, as in many towns founded during the colonisation of the Colombian piedemonte in the twentieth century. A central square anchors the grid, and the blocks around it are fairly even in size. On a map this gives a steady rhythm of short streets that stops abruptly where the countryside begins.
A El Doncello map poster suits that contrast. The dense urban core prints as a dark, finely drawn block. The creeks and rural tracks around it thin out into sparse, wandering lines. The result is a quiet picture of a frontier town and the working landscape it grew out of, with no decoration needed.

Foothill road
The regional highway runs straight through town and ties El Doncello to its neighbours along the Caquetá foothills, forming the strongest line on the map.
Streams and pasture
Small watercourses wind through the surrounding cattle country. On the poster they appear as fine, irregular threads beyond the edge of the grid.

Perché El Doncello
Una mappa che ha un significato
People who were born in El Doncello, or who have family there, often want something that shows the place as it is rather than as a postcard. A plain street map does that. It keeps the square, the familiar blocks and the road out of town.
You can set your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example a family name or a year, and choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The $9 digital download covers six print sizes as 300 DPI PNG and PDF files.
