Planned layout
Streets and blocks follow a regular pattern, reflecting the town's origins as a planned settlement rather than a place that grew organically over centuries.

La mappa
Gagarin Shahri Map Poster & Print
Gagarin Shahri lies in the Jizzakh Region of Uzbekistan, on the irrigated plain once known as the Hungry Steppe, or Mirzachul. The town was developed during the Soviet effort to bring water and farming to this arid land. On a map it reads as a planned settlement, with regular streets laid out amid a wider grid of fields and canals.
The town is named after Yuri Gagarin, the first person in space, a name typical of the new towns built across Soviet Central Asia in the 1960s and 1970s. The landscape around it still carries the mark of that era. Long irrigation channels and field boundaries stretch in straight lines to the horizon.
A Gagarin Shahri map poster captures that double geometry. There is the orderly grid of the town itself, and around it the larger, ruled pattern of agricultural land and water channels. It is a graphic, disciplined image of a place built by plan in the middle of the steppe.

Irrigation canals
Long, straight channels cross the surrounding plain, bringing water to land that was arid steppe before the large irrigation projects of the Soviet period.
Field grid
Beyond the town, agricultural plots divide the land into repeating rectangles, giving the map a strong, almost abstract geometry.
