Gharo lies in Sindh, east of Karachi, on the highway to Thatta. On a map the road is its main axis, with the town's streets and market arranged along it. To the south, the land becomes flat and low, and tidal creeks reach inland from the Arabian Sea through the western edge of the Indus delta.
The area is known as the Gharo wind corridor, where steady coastal winds made it one of Pakistan's main sites for wind farms. Nearby, beside Gharo Creek, are the ruins of Banbhore, an old port settlement that archaeologists have studied for decades.
