Ginan is a town in Hashima District, Gifu Prefecture, lying on the broad Nobi Plain just south of Gifu city. The land is almost entirely flat, and the map shows a close mix of housing and farmland typical of central Japan. Narrow residential streets form dense clusters, while rice paddies and vegetable fields fill the spaces between them in small, regular rectangles.
A railway line and main roads run through the town, linking it to Gifu and to Nagoya further south. Drainage channels and small rivers cross the plain, and these straight or gently curving waterways add a subtle order to the landscape. Shops and services cluster near the station and along the main roads.
