La mappa
Gladbeck Map Poster & Print
Gladbeck lies on the northern edge of the Ruhr, between Bottrop, Gelsenkirchen and Dorsten. From above it looks less like one compact town than several settlements that grew together. A central district with its main streets and market area is surrounded by residential quarters, green strips and former industrial sites. Main roads and railways run through the town and link it to the cities around it.
Coal mining shaped the town. Around 1900 it grew quickly from a rural parish as collieries opened, and the companies built workers' housing estates near the pits. Those colonies still show on a map as small, orderly clusters of streets, often with gardens behind each row. Since the mines closed, many former sites have become parks, business areas or new housing.
The most striking feature in the south of the town is Schloss Wittringen, a moated castle set in a large park, its water-filled ditch visible as a neat ring among the trees. A Gladbeck map poster captures this mix of industrial past and green space, with patterns shared by many Ruhr towns but arranged in Gladbeck's own way.

Colliery housing estates
Workers' settlements built for the mines appear as compact groups of repeating streets and garden plots, different in texture from the town centre.
Ruhr connections
Motorways and rail lines cross the town and run on to neighbouring cities. They show on the plan as the long lines that tie Gladbeck into the wider Ruhr network.

Perché Gladbeck
Una mappa che ha un significato
For anyone with roots in the Ruhr, the map records a place built by coal and its people: the estates, the parks that replaced the pits, the roads to the next town. It works well as a gift for someone who grew up there and moved away.
Add a family name, a street or a year to the title and subtitle, and keep or edit the coordinates line. Five styles are available, from Classic black & white and Noir to Paper, Blueprint and Sand.
