Gomboussougou is a town in the Centre-Sud region of Burkina Faso, in the province of Zoundwéogo. On a map it looks very different from a European town. A small centre with a few defined streets is surrounded by clusters of compounds and fields, and tracks link it to neighbouring villages in several directions across flat country.
The surrounding landscape is Sudanian savanna, farmed in a rhythm set by the rainy season. Seasonal watercourses leave faint lines across the terrain, filling in the wet months and drying out afterwards.
