La mappa
Greater Sudbury Map Poster & Print
Greater Sudbury covers an unusually large area, and its map is dominated by water. More than three hundred lakes lie within city limits, with Ramsey Lake right beside downtown. Neighbourhoods and former towns merged in 2001 form scattered clusters of streets separated by lakes, rock and forest, linked by highways crossing the Canadian Shield.
The region sits in the Sudbury Basin, a structure formed by a meteorite impact nearly two billion years ago, and the impact left rich nickel and copper deposits. Mining shaped the city, as the Big Nickel monument and the tall Superstack at Copper Cliff show. Laurentian University and the Science North centre both sit near Ramsey Lake.
A Greater Sudbury map poster is mostly about the balance between water and land. Downtown is a small, dense grid, but the lakes around it take up much of the composition. In black and white the many shorelines produce a pattern unlike almost any other Canadian city.

The Sudbury Basin
The oval basin left by an ancient meteorite impact extends north of the city, and the mining towns around its rim follow its shape.
Scattered communities
The 2001 amalgamation joined many towns into one city, so the map shows separate street clusters spread among lakes, rock and forest.

Perché Greater Sudbury
Una mappa che ha un significato
People who grew up in Sudbury, studied at Laurentian or worked in the mines often describe it through its lakes. A map poster shows that landscape at a glance, with the neighbourhoods and shorelines they know.
The title, subtitle and coordinates can be personalised with a camp, a lake or a year. Choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, with Blueprint especially suited to all that water.
