The suburban line
The railway from Chennai ends here, and the station area forms the densest part of town, with older streets clustered closely around the tracks.

La mappa
Gummidipundi Map Poster & Print
Gummidipundi lies in Tiruvallur district at the northern edge of Tamil Nadu, close to the border with Andhra Pradesh. It is the terminus of one of Chennai's suburban railway lines, and the national highway toward Kolkata passes nearby, so the town's shape follows these two long corridors. Streets gather around the station and the older market area, then spread out into newer housing and industrial land.
The town is known for its SIPCOT industrial estate, where factories occupy large planned plots on the outskirts. To the east lies Pulicat Lake, one of India's largest brackish-water lagoons, separated from the Bay of Bengal by a narrow barrier island. Between town and lagoon, the land is flat and dotted with fields, tanks and small villages.
A Gummidipundi map poster brings the corridors and the open land into balance. The railway and highway provide strong lines, the industrial estate adds orderly rectangles, and water bodies break up the plain. It is a map of a working town at the edge of a metropolitan region, rendered in calm, precise black and white.

The industrial estate
The SIPCOT estate appears as a grid of large plots and wide roads, clearly distinct from the finer residential streets of the older town.
Toward Pulicat
East of town, flat land runs toward Pulicat Lake, with tanks and channels scattered across the plain before the great lagoon begins.
