Field geometry
Long rectangular plots and straight farm roads surround the town. They form a regular pattern that fills the outer area of the poster with fine parallel lines.

La mappa
Gupi Map Poster & Print
Gupi lies in northern Jiangsu Province, in the Xuzhou area, on the wide alluvial plain that stretches across this part of eastern China. The land is almost perfectly flat. From above, the town is a compact block of streets surrounded by a precise patchwork of fields, drainage channels and rural roads.
The area has a long history. Gupi is associated with the site of ancient Xiapi, a city that appears in accounts of the late Han and Three Kingdoms periods, and waterways have shaped settlement here for centuries. Today the town serves as a local centre for the surrounding farming villages.
A Gupi map poster reveals the geometry of the plain. Straight channels and roads divide the fields, the town's streets meet mostly at right angles, and water appears as long, thin lines, not broad shapes. In black and white the result is orderly and restful, a portrait of cultivated land as much as of the town.

Drainage channels
Narrow canals and ditches cross the plain in straight courses. This network, typical of the Huai basin lowlands, shows clearly in minimal linework.
Compact town centre
The town is small and dense, with streets set mostly at right angles. It gives the centre of the poster a clear focus against the surrounding farmland.
