La mappa
Gusong Map Poster & Print
Gusong is the seat of Gulin County in Luzhou, in the south of Sichuan near the border with Guizhou. The area is mountainous. Steep hills rise around the town, and the flat land available for building is limited to the valley floor. As a result, Gusong has a long, winding form instead of the regular grid seen in cities on the plains.
The river and the main roads follow the same valley, and the streets stack along them in narrow bands. Where the valley widens, the town gets denser, and where it narrows, the built-up area thins into a single corridor. A Gusong map poster shows that relationship with the terrain very clearly: the town's outline is effectively the shape of the valley itself.
Gulin County is known in China as the home of Langjiu, a well-known baijiu produced in the county's town of Erlang. Otherwise, Gusong is a practical mountain county seat, and its map is shaped more by geography than by monuments. In black and white, the contrast between the dense valley streets and the empty hillsides around them makes a strong graphic image.

River and road together
The river and main roads run side by side through the valley. Together they form the central line the town is built along.
Empty hillsides
The steep slopes around the town remain largely undeveloped. That leaves wide blank areas on the map that frame the dense streets in the valley.

Perché Gusong
Una mappa che ha un significato
For people from Gulin County or anyone who knows the mountains of southern Sichuan, the map captures a town shaped entirely by its valley. It is a distinctive, unusual form that works well even for people who have never visited.
Edit the title and subtitle, for example with a family name, characters or a date, and keep the coordinates underneath. Choose from five styles. Noir makes the narrow valley stand out especially sharply.
