La mappa

Hanamaki Map Poster & Print

Hanamaki is in the middle of Iwate prefecture, on the broad plain of the Kitakami River, one of the longest rivers in northern Japan. From above the city centre sits near the river, with farmland on all sides. Valleys lead west into the Ou Mountains, where several hot-spring resorts sit along the streams.

The city is closely associated with Miyazawa Kenji, the poet and children's author who was born here in 1896. Many places in and around Hanamaki are linked to his life and work. Hanamaki Onsen and other hot-spring areas bring visitors from across the region.

More recently, the city has become known through baseball, as a local high school produced both Shohei Ohtani and Yusei Kikuchi. A Hanamaki map poster shows a clear contrast: a compact centre by the river, open rice fields and narrow roads following the valleys into the mountains.

01

Kitakami River

The wide river runs north to south through the plain, just east of the centre. It forms a strong, steady line on the poster.

02

Onsen valleys

West of the city, narrow roads follow streams into the mountains toward the hot springs. They add thin, winding lines in the upper part of the map.

03

Rice plain

Flat farmland surrounds the city and is divided into regular fields. It gives the poster a calm, evenly textured background.
