The town's core follows a main road along the ridge. Side streets branch off in a pattern that reads like the veins of a leaf.

La mappa
Heiligenhaus Map Poster & Print
Heiligenhaus sits in the Mettmann district of North Rhine-Westphalia, between Essen, Velbert and Ratingen. It lies in the hilly Niederbergisches Land, the northern part of the Bergisches Land. On a map, the town stretches along a main axis. Residential streets branch off to either side and then stop at wooded slopes and stream valleys.
The name translates roughly as holy house. Although the Ruhr cities and Düsseldorf are close by, the town feels separate on the map: green gaps and small valleys divide it from its neighbours. The Abtskücher Teich, a pond in a wooded valley, is one of several quiet patches of blue and green on the outskirts.
A Heiligenhaus map poster shows a town defined by its topography rather than by a planned grid. Streets follow ridges and dip into valleys, and the forest keeps pressing in at the edges. The print is an unhurried portrait of a place many people pass by on the motorway without seeing.

Wooded valleys
Small stream valleys and forest patches cut into the built-up area and surround it, giving the map soft, uneven edges and plenty of white space.
Between big cities
Heiligenhaus sits in the green belt between Essen and Düsseldorf, and a wider frame shows how the dense Ruhr pattern gives way to hills.
