La mappa
Heston Map Poster & Print
Heston is in the London Borough of Hounslow, between the town of Hounslow and the M4. On a map it looks like a typical twentieth-century London suburb: curved residential closes, long roads of semi-detached houses and patches of park and playing field. The motorway crosses the area in a firm diagonal, and the huge open outline of Heathrow Airport sits just to the west.
Heston started as a village and still has a parish church at its old centre, although the suburbs that came later now surround it. The area has a well-known place in aviation history. Neville Chamberlain landed at Heston Aerodrome in 1938 on his return from Munich and read out his statement there. The airfield has closed, but aviation is still close by, since Heathrow's runways lie a short distance away.
A Heston map poster shows the contrast that defines the district: the fine grain of suburban streets pressed against the large simple forms of motorway and airport. In black and white the curving closes look almost like a drawing, and the M4 adds a strong line that holds the composition together. It is a local, unfussy print for anyone who calls this corner of London home.

Suburban closes
Curving cul-de-sacs and crescents from the interwar and postwar years give the residential areas a soft, looping texture from above.
Heathrow's edge
To the west the airport's wide open ground begins, a pale area that gives the dense streets of Heston a clear border.

Perché Heston
Una mappa che ha un significato
Heston is the kind of place people carry around with them: the school run, the local park, the sound of planes coming in. A map of those streets is a personal thing to hang, and it makes an understated gift for a new homeowner.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can all be changed, so you might add your road name or the year you moved in. There are five styles to choose from, Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand, as $9 HD digital files or a printed poster.
