La mappa
Higashimatsushima Map Poster & Print
Higashimatsushima lies on the eastern side of Matsushima Bay in Miyagi Prefecture, facing the Pacific. Much of the city sits on low, flat land between the hills and the shore, crossed by rivers and historic canals, while the Oku-Matsushima peninsula reaches into the bay with viewpoints over its many small islands.
The coast was among the areas struck hardest by the tsunami of March 2011, and the map today reflects the recovery that followed: some low-lying districts were not rebuilt, and new residential areas were developed on higher ground inland. Parts of the former shoreline neighbourhoods have become parkland and open space.
The city is also home to the Air Self-Defense Force's Matsushima base, where the Blue Impulse aerobatic team is stationed, and its long runway is one of the clearest shapes on a Higashimatsushima map poster. Around it, farmland, waterways and the ragged island coast complete a varied, carefully balanced composition.

Canals and rivers
Rivers and historic canals run through the lowland toward the sea, marking the landscape with long, calm lines that frame the rebuilt districts.

Perché Higashimatsushima
Una mappa che ha un significato
For residents who stayed, families who rebuilt and people who volunteered after 2011, the city's map carries a particular weight. It records a place that has changed and endured, and it makes a thoughtful gift for anyone with ties to the Miyagi coast.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates with a district name or a meaningful date. Select one of five styles, Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand; Blueprint suits the bay's many channels and islands particularly well.
