La mappa

Hino Map Poster & Print

Hino is a town in Gamō District, Shiga Prefecture, on the eastern side of the Ōmi basin around Lake Biwa. Its centre sits on the plain where the land starts to rise toward the Suzuka Mountains, and the map shows a clear progression: a compact old town, then open fields, then the dense contours of forested slopes.

Hino is known as one of the home towns of the Ōmi merchants, traders who travelled across Japan from the Edo period onward and built businesses far from Shiga. Their legacy survives in the old merchant houses of the town centre. Hino is also known for its spring festival, when ornate floats are drawn through the streets.

A Hino map poster keeps the older street pattern at its heart, where narrow lanes run between closely set plots, and surrounds it with the fine lines of rice paddies and rural roads. The mountains to the east add a quieter, more organic texture and give the composition a natural edge.

Merchant town centre

The historic core, linked to the Ōmi merchants, is the densest part of the map, with narrow streets running between closely packed plots.

02

Paddy fields

Rice fields spread around the town in a fine rectangular mesh. The pattern fills much of the lowland part of the poster.

03

Suzuka foothills

To the east, the land rises toward the Suzuka Mountains, and the roads curve and thin out as they follow the valleys into the hills.

Perché Hino

Una mappa che ha un significato

Hino suits people who value continuity: a town whose merchant streets have outlived the centuries and whose fields still frame it the way they always have. As a poster, it pairs a sense of heritage with a clean, modern way of drawing.

Enter your own title and subtitle, in Japanese or English, and edit the coordinates line. Paper and Sand give warmer tones, and Noir gives stronger contrast. Download high-resolution files for $9, or order a matte print with an optional wooden frame.
