Howli lies on the low alluvial plain of lower Assam, north of the Brahmaputra. The land is almost perfectly level, so water shapes most of the map. Ponds, marshy hollows and small streams break up the fields, and roads tend to follow the slightly higher ground between them. The town gathers along a few main routes, with denser lanes near the market and a looser spread of houses toward the paddy land.
Seen from above, Howli has no rigid grid. Streets branch and bend to fit plots that grew up over generations, and many lanes end at fields or water. That irregular, organic network looks especially good in monochrome. Thin lines wander between blocks of empty space, and small bodies of water turn into clear dark or light shapes, depending on the style you choose.
