La mappa
Huangshan Map Poster & Print
The city of Huangshan takes its name from the granite mountain range to its north, but its urban core is Tunxi, a river town in the valleys of southern Anhui. From above, the built-up area follows the water. Two rivers meet here to form the Xin'an, and the streets spread along their banks and across a series of bridges, hemmed in on every side by forested hills.
Tunxi Old Street, a long pedestrian lane of Ming- and Qing-style shopfronts, runs parallel to the river near the confluence. Across the wider prefecture lie Xidi and Hongcun, villages listed by UNESCO for their Huizhou architecture. The mountain itself, also a World Heritage site, is known for its twisted pines, seas of cloud and sheer stone pillars.
A Huangshan map poster centred on Tunxi shows how tightly the city is shaped by terrain. Roads fork along valley floors, the river bends through the middle of the frame, and the hills leave pale, empty areas at the edges. The print balances dense streets against open space in a way that suits the landscape the city is named for.

Tunxi Old Street
A narrow historic lane running parallel to the riverbank, drawn as a fine line through the tight grain of small blocks in the older part of town.
Hill-Bound Edges
Forested slopes press in on all sides, so the street network stops abruptly and leaves soft, blank margins around the city.

Perché Huangshan
Una mappa che ha un significato
Huangshan draws people who have climbed the mountain at dawn or wandered through the whitewashed villages of old Huizhou. A map of the city at the foot of the range is a less obvious, more personal souvenir than another photograph of the peaks.
Add a title, a subtitle such as the date of your trip, and your own coordinates line. The poster comes in five styles, Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand, and Paper suits the ink-and-wash mood of the region.
