Ibipeba sits in the interior of Bahia, in the north-central part of the state, on the dry plateau country of the sertão. On a map the town is a compact block of streets, organised around a central square in the familiar pattern of small Brazilian towns, with regular blocks extending outward.
Beyond the last streets, the land opens into farmland and scrub, crossed by straight rural roads and property boundaries. The region is known for agriculture on the plateau, and the patchwork of fields gives the surrounding area a subtle geometric texture.
