Central plaza
Streets converge on the main square and church, forming the densest part of the map. The pattern gradually loosens as the town extends outwards.

La mappa
Jáltipan de Morelos Map Poster & Print
Jáltipan de Morelos lies in the southern part of Veracruz, in the warm lowlands leading towards the Isthmus of Tehuantepec and the industrial cities near the Coatzacoalcos river. From above the town has an irregular grid centred on its plaza. Streets rise and fall with the uneven ground, and the edges turn into pasture, patches of wetland and scattered settlements.
The town is an old one, with roots before the Spanish arrival. Local tradition holds that it was the birthplace of Malintzin, the interpreter known as La Malinche. Major road and rail routes serve the area, and they cross the map as confident lines against the looser street pattern.
A Jáltipan de Morelos map poster suits a place that is better understood from within than from a guidebook. The plaza, the church blocks and the routes leading out of town form a clear composition, while the lighter countryside around it shows the flat, green region in which the town sits.

Transport corridors
Road and rail routes serving southern Veracruz run past the town. Their long lines contrast with the short, irregular blocks of the centre.
Lowland surroundings
Beyond the built-up area, the land opens into pasture and low wet ground, drawn lightly so that the town appears as a compact island on the sheet.
