Compact town centre
The older part of town is a dense cluster of narrow streets and markets. On the map it is clearly marked as the darkest, most intricate area.

La mappa
Jāmkhed Map Poster & Print
Jāmkhed is a town in Maharashtra's Ahilyanagar district, formerly Ahmednagar, on the dry Deccan plateau. From above it forms a compact centre of close-packed streets, with a looser fringe of newer housing along the main roads. The countryside around it is open and gently rolling, divided into fields and crossed by seasonal streams that run full only after the monsoon.
In public health circles the town is known around the world for the Comprehensive Rural Health Project, founded here in 1970 by the doctors Raj and Mabelle Arole. Its model of training village health workers from local communities was studied and adopted far beyond India. Nearby Kharda was the site of the 1795 battle between the Marathas and the Nizam of Hyderabad.
A Jāmkhed map poster is a portrait of a working plateau town. It shows the dense grain of the centre, the roads heading out toward neighbouring towns and the wide farmland in between. Printed in black and white, the simple radial form stands out clearly against the texture of the surrounding fields.

Radiating roads
Main roads leave Jāmkhed in several directions across the plateau. They form a star-like pattern that gives the composition a clear centre and strong lines.
Seasonal streams
Shallow river courses and nallahs wind across the surrounding farmland. They are dry for much of the year but show on the map as fine, branching lines.
