Water everywhere
Canals, drainage ditches and small lakes thread through and around the town. On the poster they break the street grid into irregular pieces, just as they break up the plain itself.

La mappa
Jingling Map Poster & Print
Jingling is the central urban area of Tianmen, in Hubei, and it sits on the Jianghan Plain, one of the flattest and wettest landscapes in central China. The map shows it clearly. With no hills to bend the roads, the streets run in long straight lines. Water is everywhere: small rivers, drainage channels and ponds fill the spaces between neighbourhoods and fields.
Jingling is also the historic name of the area, and it carries a well-known association. Lu Yu, the Tang dynasty writer of The Classic of Tea, is traditionally said to have grown up here. Today the town is a regional centre surrounded by intensively farmed land, with newer districts added along wide arterial roads.
A Jingling map poster captures this plain-country character. Dense blocks sit at the centre, and a looser network of roads spreads outward, crossed again and again by thin lines of water. It suits anyone who likes a calm, even composition in which the pattern of land and water carries the whole design.

Straight plain roads
On flat ground the main roads run long and straight. They form a strong frame that the older, denser central blocks fill in.
Newer districts
Wider avenues and larger blocks mark the areas built in recent decades. They sit beside the tighter grain of the older town centre.
