Irrigation canals
Straight channels fed from the Yellow River cross the plain. They are the strongest linear features on the map and set the direction of fields and roads.

La mappa
Jingui Map Poster & Print
Jingui lies on the Yinchuan Plain in Ningxia, a flat strip of land between the Helan Mountains to the west and the Yellow River to the east. The whole area depends on irrigation. From above, the dominant pattern is made of straight canals, drainage ditches and long rectangular fields, with settlements set among them.
The irrigation network on this plain goes back many centuries, and its main channels still decide where roads and villages run. Streets and blocks follow the same straight lines as the water. Built-up areas therefore sit within a larger, carefully ordered landscape.
A Jingui map poster captures that order. Canals and roads form a network of parallel and crossing lines, and the settlement adds a denser patch of blocks within it. It suits anyone who likes maps where people and water have drawn the design together.

Strip field pattern
Farmland is divided into long, narrow parcels between the canals. On a black-and-white print, this becomes a fine, rhythmic texture.
Plain between mountain and river
The Helan range to the west and the Yellow River to the east frame this lowland corridor. That setting gives the local grid its overall orientation.

Perché Jingui
Una mappa che ha un significato
For people with family roots in Ningxia, or who have lived and worked on the Yinchuan Plain, a map of home carries meaning that a landscape photo rarely does. This one shows the canals and fields as they are actually laid out.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can be personalised, and there are five styles to choose from: Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Buy HD files for $9 or a printed matte poster, framed if you like.
