Town square
Like most Javanese regency capitals, Jombang is laid out around an alun-alun. This open square shows up as a clear blank rectangle, surrounded by the town's densest streets.

La mappa
Jombang Map Poster & Print
On a map, Jombang is a modest town in the wide lowland of East Java, where the Brantas River swings past on its way to the sea near Surabaya. The centre is a grid of short streets around the town square, the alun-alun, with the main road and the railway running east to west. Around it the pattern breaks up into villages strung along roads between paddy fields.
Jombang is widely known as a town of pesantren, Islamic boarding schools. The best known is Tebuireng, founded by Hasyim Asy'ari, who also founded Nahdlatul Ulama, one of the largest Muslim organisations in the world. His grandson Abdurrahman Wahid, Indonesia's fourth president, is buried there, and the site draws visitors all year round.
A Jombang map poster captures the pairing of a compact regency town and the farmland around it. The thin lines of village roads, the heavier stroke of the main highway and the soft curve of the river give the print an even rhythm. It works well in a study, a prayer room or a hallway.

Brantas River
East Java's longest river passes north of the centre. It is a broad, gently winding line that gives the poster a natural edge against the grid of roads.
Village ribbons
Beyond the centre, houses line the roads in long, narrow strips with fields between them. This creates a branching pattern that fills the outer part of the map.
