Juventino Rosas is located in the state of Guanajuato, in the Bajío, the broad agricultural plain of central Mexico. The town was originally called Santa Cruz de Galeana, and it was later renamed in honour of Juventino Rosas, the composer born here in 1868 who wrote the waltz "Sobre las olas".
From above, the town is arranged around a central plaza with a church, and a grid of straight streets spreads out in every direction, as is typical of Mexican colonial planning. The main roads extend towards Celaya and the rest of the region, while the edges of town merge into cultivated fields.
