La mappa

Kakuda Map Poster & Print

Kakuda lies in the south of Miyagi Prefecture, in a basin through which the Abukuma River flows on its way to the Pacific. It grew as a castle town in the Edo period, and its centre still has the compact block layout of that time. Around it, the flat floor of the basin is almost entirely rice fields, bounded by forested hills.

Kakuda is known across Japan as the home of the Kakuda Space Center, where JAXA develops and tests rocket engines. On the map, the Abukuma curves through the basin in a broad, calm line crossed by several bridges. Roads and the Abukuma Express railway link the town with the Sendai area and Fukushima.

A Kakuda map poster shows a Japanese rural town in miniature: a dense core of streets, a ring of rice paddies divided into neat rectangles, the river winding through and hills closing the view on each side. The contrast between the fine grid of fields and the free curve of the river works especially well in black and white.

Abukuma River

One of Tohoku's major rivers flows through the basin beside the town. Its wide, gently curving course is the main open shape on the poster.

02

Rice-field grid

Paddies cover the basin floor in regular rectangles. On the map their field roads create a fine, almost woven pattern around the town.

03

Castle-town core

The old centre keeps the compact block layout of an Edo-period castle town. It forms a denser knot of streets set against the open fields around it.

Perché Kakuda

Una mappa che ha un significato

You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line with a name or a date, and choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Files come as 300 DPI PNGs and print-ready PDFs in six sizes.
